4 Stars General Contracting was founded by Mario, a Canadian/Italian tradesman who has spent over 30 years in the construction industry building a reputation that speaks for itself. Over three decades, Mario has worked on everything from custom residential builds and full home renovations to large-scale commercial projects across the GTA & HRM.

Mario's son Santino now leads the company day-to-day, bringing a modern, technology-forward approach to project management and client communication while preserving every ounce of the craftsmanship and integrity that his father built the business on.

Together, Mario and Santino run a company that Halifax homeowners and businesses trust with their most significant investments. That trust is not taken lightly — it is earned on every job, protected fiercely, and passed down from one generation to the next.

Yes. 4 Stars General Contracting is a fully licensed general contractor operating in Halifax and the HRM. We carry comprehensive liability insurance and all work is completed by licensed tradespeople. We are happy to provide proof of insurance upon request.
Either Mario or Santino will be on site regularly and will serve as your primary point of contact throughout the project. We do not hand you off to a project manager you have never met. Our family name is on every job.

Costs & Payments

Renovation costs vary widely. A single bathroom renovation might start at $15,000 while a full home renovation can reach $300,000 or more. Use our free project estimator for a ballpark for your specific project type, then contact us for an accurate written quote.
Yes. We typically require a deposit at the start of a project, with progress payments tied to project milestones. The exact payment schedule is always outlined clearly in your written contract before work begins.
All quotes and invoices include a separate line item for HST at Nova Scotia's rate of 15%. We never quote a price that hides tax — what you see is what you pay.

Permits & Process

Cosmetic work like painting and flooring typically does not require a permit. However, structural changes, electrical work, plumbing, new construction, and additions all require HRM building permits. We always advise you upfront and manage the entire permit process on your behalf.
Unpermitted work can affect your home insurance, your mortgage, and your property's resale value. In some cases, HRM can require unpermitted work to be torn out and redone at the homeowner's expense. We never cut corners on permits.
Timeline depends on the scope and type of project. A bathroom renovation typically takes 2–4 weeks. A kitchen renovation takes 4–8 weeks. A full home renovation can take 3–8 months. A custom home build typically takes 10–18 months. We provide a detailed schedule before work begins.
